How ffenss Works

The arrival of the internet has enabled people to change the way in which they shop - saving them both time and money. A website can reach a wider audience 24 hours a day and retailers can be competitive on price due to less overheads. lt is with these advantages in mind for both customer and seller that ffenss has been conceived.

The site is object focused much as an auction house has an online catalogue. Each piece has its own portfolio of images taken in accordance with ffenss guidelines and these appear as thumbnails with the main one larger than the others. There are also more general views to give, at a glance, an overview of the dealer’s style and a taste of the stock carried. Visitors to the site are encouraged to make contact with the dealer as there may be pieces not otherwise eligible for inclusion because their value is beneath the £150 threshold.

Behind each thumbnail is a page dedicated to the object. It contains everything required by either the design professional or the private buyer for an informed decision and also has information on the dealer, his location and whether the object can be rented (look for the ★ symbol).  Purchasing enquiries are made directly with the dealer.

New pieces are uploaded each week on a Wednesday evening. Once a fortnight an email is sent out to existing users as well as those on the ffenss database letting them know of the new listings. Recipients include all the main dealers and design professionals worldwide.

Want to join?

Membership of ffenss is open to antique and 20C dealers who do not trade from a traditional retail space and therefore escape the overheads of this form of retailing. Their stock should be priced to reflect the lower fixed costs and accordingly be noticeably cheaper than if it were sold through more conventional channels.

New members begin by uploading a general view of their stock and listing up to 10 items. Each week they can list a further 2. Unused credits accumulate for use in the future.

Monthly Fee: £35
Yearly Fee (5% discount): £399
